YOUTH AMBASSADORS TRAVEL TO THE UNITED STATES
January 22, 2007
Ambassador Wayne bid farewell on Monday, January 22, to Argentina's first five Youth Ambassadors, who will visit the US for two weeks to learn about American culture and values and to explain Argentine culture to Americans.
The students, who come from public schools in the provinces of Corrientes, Salta, Santa Fe and Córdoba, were chosen from among 200 applicants for their excellent academic achievements, community involvement, and fluency in English. In Washington DC, they will meet Judge Anthony Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court, tour the White House, and meet high-ranking officials of the Department of State and the Argentine Embassy.
The young ambassadors will then travel to California to live with a host family, go to school, and engage in cultural activities. They will also meet with other Youth Ambassadors from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The Youth Ambassador Program is part of the U.S. Embassy's ongoing investment in Argentina's youth, helping to prepare them to participate in today's ever-more globalized world. Ambassador Wayne said during the presentation of the Youth Ambassadors that relations between individuals are the most important ties two nations can build.
