Warden Message – Demonstration at Israeli Embassy
Demonstration at Israeli Embassy - January 6, 2009
This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens to reports that several groups have called for a demonstration against the Israeli Embassy at 5 p.m. today, January 6. Authorities expect 300-400 people to take part in the protest against military action in the Gaza Strip. Individuals will muster at the Obelisco (Corrientes and 9 de Julio Avenues) and then march toward the Israeli Embassy (Avenue de Mayo).
The demonstration is expected to be non-violent, but at least one of the eight participating groups has engaged in violent behavior in past demonstrations.
Spontaneous demonstrations take place in Argentina from time to time in response to world events or local developments. We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possible escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
