Visit from Assistant Secretary of State Arturo Valenzuela
December 15, 2009
During his first visit to Argentina, only a month after assuming the position of Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Dr. Valenzuela made an official visit on December 15 to the Minister of the Interior, Anibal Fernandez at the Casa Rosada. He then met at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry with Deputy Foreign Minister Victorio Taccetti, who was accompanied by Agustín Colombo Sierra, Assistant Secretary for Latin American Policy, and Minister Taiana’s chief of staff Alberto D'Alotto. During both meetings, the officials discussed bilateral relations and reviewed regional issues. Afterwards, Ambassador Taccetti hosted a luncheon at the San Martin Palace in honor of Dr. Valenzuela.
“ The United States celebrates the leadership of Argentina in a number of areas, including fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, and nuclear nonproliferation. During my first official visit to South America, I hope to highlight our common areas and advance a positive agenda born of common interests, “ said Assistant Secretary Valenzuela on his arrival to Buenos Aires.
In addition, the Assistant Secretary spoke at the Council of International Relations (CARI) about United States policies in the Hemisphere, met with the Board of the Argentine-American Chamber of Commerce, and attended a reception in his honor hosted by Ambassador Vilma Martinez
