ENGLISH TEACHING EXPERT DR. MARY LOU MCCLOSKEY PRESENTS WORKSHOPS AT UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE LA MATANZA AND ICANA
October 5-6, 2009 
 
Dr. Mary Lou McCloskey, Speaker of Opportunity in English Teaching, enthusiastically gave workshops at the Universidad Nacional de la  Matanza and at ICANA (Binational Center Buenos Aires) on “First Words, Words First: Vocabulary Development Essentials for English Learners.” Audiences comprised of approximately 60 English Language teachers from the University of La Matanza and secondary schools in this town located in the province of Buenos Aires, as well as ICANA teaching staff and members of ARTESOL (Argentina Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) participated in these presentations which focused on innovative activities and Internet resources available to educators to improve vocabulary teaching.  Dr. McCloskey further discussed how teachers can evaluate their students’ progress by using many creative online tools which analyze the types and frequency of words. In addition, she shared her vast experience in teaching English to child refugees in Atlanta, GA. 
Dr. McCloskey also had the opportunity to participate in a discussion about the present state of the English Language teaching field in Argentina along with Richard Boyum, the Regional English Language Officer, during his first visit to Argentina.  They met with leaders in the English Teaching field such as members of ICANA, ARTESOL, representatives of the Ministry of Education of the city of Buenos Aires and from the province of Buenos Aires, alumni of the Embassy Teacher Ambassador Program, public and private university professors, and representatives from the most well-known teacher training colleges in Buenos Aires.
