SCOTT TUROW INTRODUCTION AT BUENOS AIRES BOOK FAIR
April 29, 2007

Good afternoon.  Thank you for joining us to welcome to the 33rd Buenos Aires Book Fair the U.S. Embassy’s guest author Mr. Scott Turow.

Scott Turow is one of the most well known and successful mystery writers in the U.S. today.  He has written seven best selling novels, including one that I think many of you might know from the screen rendition: Presumed Innocent.

Scott is also a practicing lawyer, and devotes much of his time to pro bono cases.  Critics say it is this insider knowledge of the legal system that forms the basis for many of Scott’s mystery-suspense novels.

Scott’s books have been translated into 25 different languages including Spanish, and have sold more than 25 million copies around the world.  One of his most recent books, Ordinary Heroes, was just released in Argentina in February.

Scott will be signing copies of Heroes Corrientes at the Sudamericana stand after his talk this afternoon.

I also want to give special thanks to Horacio Garcia, President of the Fundacion El Libro; Carlos Alberto Pazos, the Foundation’s Vice President; and Marta Diaz, Fair  Coordinator, for their magnificent work and organizational skills in putting together such an impressive event and in particular, in helping us get ready to participate for the first time in 15 years.

Scott, thanks for accepting our invitation to come to Buenos Aires and share your insights and experiences on mystery writing with us today.
