AMBASSADOR WAYNE INTRODUCES U.S. ROCK BAND “TOTO” TO ARGENTINE STUDENTS
November 6, 2007
U.S. Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne hosted a reception November 6 at his residence in the neighborhood of Palermo in honor of the Grammy-award winning U.S. rock band TOTO visiting the country to offer a series of live concerts.
The Ambassador contacted the group when he heard that the band was coming to Argentina and invited them to share some insights about their music and their careers with Argentine music students. Prior to the meeting, the members of the band talked with a group of fifteen primary, secondary and university students from the following schools: Mother Teresa from Virreyes, St. Andrew’s and the School of Music of the Argentine Catholic University.

Ambassador Wayne also highlighted the importance of popular music to foster understanding among peoples. “Music is a strong vehicle for exchange and mutual understanding between our peoples,” said the Ambassador. “Rock music in particular is a creative channel that topples barriers among nations and generations.”
Additionally, TOTO met some Argentine musicians at the Ambassador’s residence. TOTO agreed with the Ambassador that music “goes beyond borders, nations and politics.” “Having a career in music is almost like being part of a peace-keeping force,” added the musicians.
Ambassador Wayne thanked TOTO for taking the time to give others the benefit of their experience as professional musicians.
“When I heard that TOTO was coming to Buenos Aires, I asked if they would be willing to meet with a special group of students to talk about their careers, their music and the joys and challenges of performing. And they graciously accepted.”— said the Ambassador.
