U.S. SPECIALIST TALKS ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENERGY INITIATIVES
December 11-13, 2006

Mr. Terrence O’Brien, Deputy Director of the California Energy Commission, visits Buenos Aires December 11-13 to discuss California’s initiatives to encourage energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, and protect the environment while also encouraging economic growth. Mr. O’Brien will address these topics with NGOs, local and national government officials, and academics.

Terrence O’Brien Biography

Mr. Terrence O’Brien is the Deputy Director at the California Energy Commission, a position he has held since May 2002.  At the Commission, Mr. O’Brien manages the Facilities Siting Division, which is responsible for power plant licensing and transmission system planning and corridor designation. 
Prior to becoming Deputy Director, Mr. O’Brien was the Principal Policy Advisor to the Chairman of the Energy Commission.  Mr. O’Brien has worked at the Energy Commission for over 25 years.  In that time he has supervised the Commission’s regulatory project managers, served as the director of the Environmental Division, as the policy program manager on siting issues, and been the project manager of the 1996 Electricity Report.
Mr. O'Brien holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Geography from UC Berkeley and UC Davis, respectively.  Mr. O’Brien is very knowledgeable on energy issues and brings much experience and expertise in California's efforts to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through environmental strategies.
