THE EMBASSY CELEBRATES PRESIDENTIAL SWEARING-IN

The Embassy celebrated on January 20 the inauguration of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden with two events, attended by Embassy staff and special guests.
Ambassador Wayne offered a reception at his residence for 200 government officials, diplomats, politicians, businessmen, journalists, and intellectuals. Embassy Press Officer Mara Tekach made a presentation on the government transition process in the United States . Minutes before the swearing-in ceremony, Ambassador Wayne stated in a speech that the new administration will open “a new chapter” in US relations with the region.
“As President Obama said last week, his administration will open ‘a new page, a new chapter’ in relations with Latin America . As Americans, he added, our responsibility is not to ‘dictate policies’ but find mutual interest through cooperation," said the Ambassador.
At the Embassy, more than a hundred employees and their families gathered to watch the swearing-in ceremony, and were very moved by President Obama’s inaugural address.
