“Travel to another country is an important part of our education. It helps you see how others think about the world and exchange ideas on how we can solve problems together, as well as just learn to enjoy each other and respect our differences,” US Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne told a group of university student leaders during a meeting with them on January 11 at the US embassy to discuss their upcoming visit to the US sponsored by the US Department of State.
Six students were selected from over one thousand applications nationwide to attend a five-week leadership seminar at the Institute for Training and Development in Amherst Massachusetts. This seminar is part of a series of US Institutes for Student Leaders from the Western Hemisphere that the US Department of State is sponsoring in cooperation with colleges and universities across the United States. Students from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay will all participate in these leadership programs and then meet in Washington for a three-day closing program before returning home. The Fulbright Commission assisted in the selection and coordination of the Argentine students’ participation. This program is part of the US Embassy’s ongoing effort to invest in Argentina’s youth in order to help give them the tools for success in a globalized world. On average, the Embassy in Argentina spends well over a million dollars a year on programs for youth.
