REMARKS BY AMBASSADOR WAYNE AT RECEPTION IN HONOR OF FBI EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MICHAEL A. MASON AND VISITING LEGAL ATTACHÉS
January 30, 2007
I’d like to welcome Michael Mason who traveled from Washington to lead the meeting of U.S. Legal Attachés from the Western Hemisphere this week in Buenos Aires. I also appreciate the presence of so many colleagues from the Argentine government as well as private sector representatives who are here this evening.
The FBI is an important and valued member of the Embassy in Buenos Aires as in our other embassies. The work that you do here and throughout the hemisphere is important.
The values and expertise which the FBI brings to any embassy is highly regarded, both by our American colleagues and also by the foreign officials with whom you interact.
The FBI’s presence in the Americas dates back to the 1940s.
Since that time, the mission of the FBI has been an important one in protecting U.S. citizens against international criminals and terrorists who operate in this region.
One of the greatest achievements of our legal attaches over the years has been in developing relations with their foreign counterparts that is lasting and fruitful.
Thank you for carrying out these important missions. We are happy you chose Buenos Aires to meet this week and hope that your visit will be fruitful.
