STAPLES EXPANDS IN ARGENTINA

On November 14, Staples Argentina officially opened their second location near the corner of Lavalle and Florida. This marks Staples second opening in the span of six months and represents a USD 1.4 million investment that will create nearly 20 new positions. The store features 4,500 square feet and will offer 5,000 products. In 2004, Staples acquired the Argentine company Officenet, the largest supplier of office products in Argentina. Staples itself is the largest supplier of office products in the world.
The Ambassador commended Staples Argentina for their impressive initiatives in the area of corporate social responsibility. Staples Argentina has created internal programs to promote diversity and ethics in the workplace, as well as provided generous contributions to ASHOKA, an international NGO specializing in education and entrepreneurship, among others. Impressively, according to 2007’s Great Place to Work Survey, 84% of Staples employees said: “I am proud of telling everybody I work here” and 83% reported that “I want to work here for a long time.”
The company has plans to continue expanding in Argentina in 2009.
