Opening of the Photo Exhibit Canto a la Vida

September 17, 2008, Fernandez Public Hospital

Good afternoon.  It is a great pleasure to be here at the Fernandez Hospital to open this beautiful exhibit which is the result of the great talent of young Argentines.

This is the second time that we open this exhibit together with the Cultural Center of the Argentine Catholic University, the first one in the city of Rosario and today, here, with all of you.

As Pablo (Gutierrez Zaldivar) mentioned before, Canto a la Vida is the result of a program initiated some years ago by the Catholic University, and it is the result of the participation of more than 3000 young Argentines in a photography contest.

The images that you see today were selected by a renowned jury formed by great Argentine artists and professionals.  It is with great honor for the U.S. Embassy to present this exhibit at the Fernandez Hospital.

The venue selected to mount this exhibit is not a coincidence.  The initiative was designed with the goal of showing the exhibit to those who visit along public health centers.  We did it at the CEMAR in Rosario last May and today we are doing it here.

I would like to thank Dr. José Lanés, Minister Jorge Lemus and Mr. Jorge Avruj, and to congratulate Mr. Pablo Gutierrez Zaldivar and the staff of the Cultural Center of the Argentine Catholic University for their excellent work to mount this exhibit.

I hope that you enjoy the exhibit, which is the result of the great talent of young Argentines.

Thank you.
