AMBASSADOR WAYNE OPENING REMARKS AT THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT
Centro Cultural Recoleta
August 7, 2008
Good evening. I am very glad to be here today at the opening of the twentieth anniversary of the Festival of Light.
This time, the Embassy has the pleasure to join an initiative of the San Martin Theater Photo Gallery of inviting the talented U.S. photographer Christopher Rauschenberg to exhibit his work in Buenos Aires during this important festival. I have no doubt that you all will enjoy his exhibit. I would also like to express my best wishes for success to all the exhibitions mounted in Buenos Aires and throughout Argentina. I hope your efforts attract a big audience.
Last week, during the launching of a new cultural preservation program, I mentioned the memorandum of understanding signed by Argentina and the U.S. last July to promote cultural exchanges between both countries. The opening of this festival and the participation of Mr. Christopher Rauschenberg are another example of the actions that we can carry out together to strengthen the bilateral relation and mutual understanding between the people of both countries. It is my wish that we can generate more activities to achieve this goal.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate the festival organizers, Mrs. Elda Harrington and Mr. Alejandro Montes de Oca, and Mr. Juan Travnik for the organizing of Rauschenberg’s exhibit; and to thank Mr. Claudio Massetti for inviting us here today; Mr. Kive Staiff and Mr. Carlos Elía from the San Martin Theater Complex; and Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, Mr. Hernán Lombardi, for sharing with us this space for the development of the cultural life of the city.
Thank you.
