Strategic Threat Interdiction Symposium
July 27, 2009
Chargé d’Affaires i.a. Alexander Featherstone opened on July 27 the Strategic Threat Interdiction Symposium organized by the U.S. Military Group and the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The symposium to be held July 27-31 under the title of “Fight against Transnational Complex Crime” will gather representatives of Argentine Customs and Border Guard, Federal Police of the province of Cordoba, customs representatives from Uruguay, Treasury and Specialized Technical Unit from Paraguay and speakers from United States Joint Special Operations University and Naval War College.
“Events like this are enormously helpful to strengthen regional cooperation in the fight against the threats and challenges posed by transnational crime, drug-trafficking and trafficking in persons while providing a valuable opportunity to exchange information and experiences among our governments and security forces.” – said Mr. Featherstone.
Seminar topics include the future threat of transnational crime, criminal organizations as networks, networks and other structures, links to terrorism, trafficking in persons, money-laundering, intra- and inter-governmental cooperation and the importance of cooperation among agencies.
One of the main objectives of this important training for leaders is to bring together a group of regional law-enforcement partners from Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to strengthen and enhance professional contacts, discuss key issues and share practices and experiences in order to improve the way key security and law-enforcement issues are dealt with.
“In today’s globalized world, our ability to work together is essential to successfully coordinate the most effective investigative strategies and enforce the strongest laws available to us”. – underlined Mr. Featherstone.
