AMBASSADOR WAYNE VISITS SIAL MERCOSUR 2008 TRADE SHOW
September 17, 2008

Ambassador Wayne visited the USA Pavilion on the seventh edition of SIAL Mercosur 2008 on Septemebr 17. The SIAL Mercosur trade show is an important event aimed at fostering food and beverage regional trade. Approximately 20,000 business professionals are expected to visit the show this year. Twelve U.S. companies were present at the United States Pavilion showing their high-quality value-added products. “It is a great honor for me to have twelve U.S. companies in this market that describe their participation in this show as fruitful,” said Ambassador Wayne.

Following his visit, the Ambassador highlighted that food and beverage imports from the U.S. continue to increase in Argentina and that there are very good opportunities to strengthen trade between the two countries.

“I am pleased to visit a professional forum as SIAL Mercosur where the active commercial exchange of food and beverages generated through direct contact fosters international trade in the region.” noted Ambassador Wayne.

Argentina has made significant progress since the 2001-2003 economic crisis. The economy grew at an important annual rate and tourism reached unprecedented figures. This recovery was accompanied by rapid expansion of imports of food and beverages. In 2007, imports amounted to US$ 615 million and are expected to reach US$ 850 million in 2008.

After touring the show, the Ambassador congratulated six local importers of U.S. products who have been highly successful in the Argentine market.
