AMBASSADOR WAYNE OPENS INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR FOR YOUNG LEADERS ORGANIZED BY THE FULBRIGHT COMMISSION
August 9, 2007
U.S. Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne visited CARI headquarters on August 9, where an "International Seminar for Young Leaders" organized by the Fulbright Commission and sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Argentina was being hosted.
This week-long seminar for university graduate students and professionals from a broad range of academic backgrounds was focused on learning more about the United States and its bilateral relationship with Argentina. In this regard, the Ambassador highlighted the interests of participants in "strengthening the mutual understanding between our peoples."
This seminar – the third one organized by the U.S. Embassy together with the Fulbright Commission – was given in English by two American professors and raised so much interest that there were 400 applicants to cover 37 seats. Last year, another two successful programs were conducted – one in Buenos Aires and the other one in Rio Cuarto (Province of Cordoba) with excellence attendance rate which surpassed all expectations.
As Ambassador Wayne underscored, "the strength of our bilateral ties has much if not more to do with the interaction of ordinary people than with the actions or behavior of governments" and he stressed the US Embassy's hard work in strengthening people-to-people ties, with a special focus on reaching out to young people. "This seminar today is a wonderful example of that" – he remarked.
