SENIOR U.S. ECONOMIST TALKS FREE TRADE WITH ARGENTINA'S JOURNALISTS

Jeffrey J. Schott, Senior Fellow at the Institute for International Economics and a Commercial Advisor to Congress, participated in a press roundtable sponsored by the U.S. Embassy for Argentine economic journalists at the Four Seasons Hotel on June 14, 2006. Mr. Schott offered the latest thinking and statistics on global trade issues, including prospects for the Doha round, regional integration, Mercosur, and the impact of China’s growing economy. He also examined the greatest challenges facing Argentina's international competitiveness, as many of the positive external factors that fueled strong growth begin to slow. Earlier the same day, Mr. Schott addressed the American Chamber of Commerce, which had sponsored his visit Buenos Aires.
