SARMIENTO-MANN SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM

Learning English is beyond the financial capacities of many fine students in Argentina. To remedy this situation, the US Embassy has asked Binational centers throughout the country to design a micro-scholarship program for top students in their communities who do not have the resources to enroll in an ESL program. We have named this program the “Sarmiento-Mann Scholarships” in honor of President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, who did so much to improve public education in Argentina, and his friend and founder of the public education system in the United States, educator Horace Mann. Currently BNCs in Mendoza, Parana, Cordoba, SaltaBuenos Aires and San Rafael have received Embassy funding for scholarships to local students who need a helping hand to learn English.  This program reflects the Embassy's ongoing commitment to invest in Argentina's youth, in this case by offering them the tools to compete more effectively in an increasingly globalized world economy.
