VISIT AND DONATION FROM AMBASSADOR WAYNE TO THE SAN PABLO CENTER
March 4, 2009

Ambassador Wayne toured the San Pablo Center in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito together with the Center´s director, Mrs. Patricia Rago, on March 4.

Fifty boys and teens aged 8-18 years old with social problems live in the home, who don´t have relatives or any kind of family support.  To help the home´s needs, the Embassy donated mattresses, furniture, heaters, mirrors and a camcorder in this visit.

Ambassador Wayne chatted with the kids, who showed him the work they do at the Center´s workshops. They also proudly showed him and shared commentary about an award winning film they had made.  The boys said they were very happy to receive a camcorder, as the one they had used to make the film had been stolen.

Also present during the visit was the specialist in minors with special abilities, Mrs. Alejandra Morilla, director of "Supertanny", the Argentine comic which narrates the stories of a handicapped child hero.  Ambasssador Wayne also noted English-speaking volunteers from the NGO Amauta who were helping the children learn English.

The San Pablo Center has been running a succesful program assisting children at risk for nine years.  The youths receive psychological treatment, medical attention, physical education, and schooling and homework assistance.  They also attend workshops on cooking, theater, arts and crafts, and communications.

"I congratulate the San Pablo Center for the inspiring work they are doing.  There is nothing more important for the future of our society than investing time and love in our kids and youths.  The Embassy is very proud to put its two cents to this great work," Ambassador Wayne said.
