DONATION OF THE U.S. EMBASSY TO CHILDREN´S MUNICPAL HOSPITAL IN SAN JUSTO
January 12, 2009

Ambassador Wayne, Colonel Edwin Passmore, Commander, United States Military Group and Public Affairs Counselor Robert Howes toured the San Justo Children´s hospital facilities and donated hospital materials and equipment on January 12.  Thanks to the funds provided by the Military Group of the U.S. Embassy, the elements donated included suture, a table centrifuge with digital tachymeter, a dental turbine and electrosurge and folding chairs for the rooms.

“During the tour with the Director of the Hospital, Dr. Enrique Suarez and Dr. Maria Cristina Cañero Velasco we were able to see the strong sense of duty and daily effort that all the hospital staff dedicates to the patients. We are sure that this contribution will be of much help to the pediatricians and the little patients, Ambassador said. ”

The San Justo Children’s Hospital covers medical clinic, clinical surgery and specialities as well as diagnosis and treatment.  At present the hospital has 130 beds, the Outpatient Department daily serves approximately 530 patients, the Emergency Room receives an average of 1000 daily consultations and the number has been growing 10-15% a year.  Children are referred to this pediatric center not only from La Matanza but from all the surrounding districts, especially in relation to newborn surgeries, nephrology, intensive care and specialities.  The hospital is supervised by the Municipality of La Matanza and it is the only children’s hospital in the district.

“Our donation is a small gesture of our support for the important work undertaken every day at this hospital. I was stuck by the dedication of the staff and the cadre of volunteers I met today.  This is truly a work of compassion for the children. ”
