Thomas Kelly and Special Advisor to The U.S. President Gary Samore Meet With Chief of Cabinet Aníbal Fernández

Gary Samore met on August 10 with Chief of Cabinet Aníbal Fernández

Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Kelly and U.S. Special Advisor Gary Samore met on August 10 with Chief of Cabinet Aníbal Fernández this afternoon at the House of Government. 

“ Dr. Samore’s visit and consultations with Chief of Cabinet  Aníbal Fernández offer a unique opportunity for the Government of the United States and Argentina to advance their international collaborative efforts to address the dangers of nuclear proliferation and to support multilateral cooperation to share the benefits of nuclear technologies in safety and security.” -- said Mr. Kelly. 

Dr. Samore, who has been a leading U.S. authority on non-proliferation issues for two decades, is also the White House Coordinator for Arms Control and Weapons of Mass Destruction, Proliferation, and Terrorism. Dr. Samore was accompanied by Mr. Ed McGinnis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for Corporate and Global Partnership Development at the United States Department of Energy, and Robert Peters, Department of Defense Advisor for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction. 

Dr. Samore also visited Foreign Ministry offices and met with FM Tatiana’s Chief of Staff Alberto D´Alotto.

Dr. Samore, Minister Fernández and Chief of Staff D´Alotto reviewed ongoing multilateral efforts to ensure peaceful and beneficial uses of nuclear technologies, including shared commitments to address safety and proliferation risks. Both governments also agreed to continue dialogue on areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
