AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS EXPERTS VISIT SALTA
January 24 to February 2, 2008

The US Department of Agriculture and Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food have agreed to conduct a training project on management & development of agricultural statistics and satellite images within the scope of a bilateral cooperative agreement signed between both governments in 2004.

The US Department of Agriculture and Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food have agreed to conduct a training project on management & development of agricultural statistics and satellite images within the scope of a bilateral cooperative agreement signed between both governments in 2004. 

From January 24 to February 2, 2008, Director Larry Sivers and Specialist Victoria Calderón from the International Programs Division of the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service – NASS -held technical meetings with their counterparts from the  National Statistics Office of  Argentina’s  Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food and traveled to the province of Salta to conduct a survey of agricultural statistics management in the region and training needs assessment for their experts. Upon their return to Buenos Aires, the team designed the new project to be implemented in February-September 2008. The purpose of the project is to continue to strengthen training in agricultural statistics, including trips to the United States by Argentine experts as well as visits to Argentina by NASS representatives and exchange of satellite images and workshops among other activities.
