INFORMATION RESOURCE OFFICER DONATES BOOKS TO PUBLIC SCHOOL IN SALTA

U.S. Embassy Information Resource Officer, Jean Cavanaugh donated about 90 books to the Escuela No. 4013 “Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra”, on October 5, 2006.  More than 1,100 students (K-12), attend this public school located in a low-income area in the city of Salta.  IRO Jean Cavanaugh and Noris Zerdá, U.S. Embassy Cultural Affairs Assistant, who attended the XXVI Argentine BNCs Annual Meeting held in Salta, took a moment to visit and presented these books. They were accompanied by members of ISICANA (BNC Salta).  The collection includes fiction, non-fiction and classics of U.S. literature translated into Spanish such as "Tom Sawyer," "Little Women," and “Daniel Boone.”  Students received the books with such enthusiasm that they read some paragraphs out loud.  The books will be incorporated into the school library, which is under construction.  Meanwhile, they will be lent to the students.
