AMBASSADOR WAYNE WITH GOVERNOR OF USHUAIA FABIANA RIOS
December 23, 2008

Ambassador Wayne met on December 23 with Governor of Tierra del Fuego Fabiana Rios in the city of Ushuaia in his second visit to the province.

“It is a pleasure to be here again in this beautiful city. I think Ushuaia is a wonderful tourist destination."-- said Ambassador Wayne.

The Ambassador and Governor Rios who had met before during an official event in Buenos Aires in the month of April shared ideas to strengthen the relation between the province and the United States. The Ambassador and the Governor talked about the economic development potential of the province; particularly in relation to hydrocarbons and aquiculture. Ambassador Wayne was pleased to learn that the province of Tierra del Fuego is increasing its level of cooperation for development with the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB).

Ambassador Wayne also underscored the importance of person-to-person relations; specially of education and cultural exchanges, to build and strengthen solid and lasting bilateral ties. The Ambassador highlighted the excellent work Ushicana Institute, the Argentine-US binational center in Ushuaia, carries out to foster exchanges among youth in both countries. “I told Governor Rios I hope many people from Tierra del Fuego can apply to some of the education exchange programs organized by our Embassy, as Youth Ambassadors and Teacher Ambassadors, among others.”-- said Ambassador Wayne.
