AMBASSADOR WAYNE AND RICKY MARTIN DISCUSS TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS
Ambassador Wayne and Ricky Martin met during the Buenos Aires leg of the Puerto Rican pop star’s Black and White world tour on March 3. The Ambassador and Martin discussed efforts by the Embassy and the Ricky Martin Foundation to fight trafficking in persons. The Foundation has taken up this issue as one of its key areas of focus and sponsors a regional campaign to set up hotlines for prevention and victim protection. On March 7, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice presented Susana Trimarco de Verón, a woman from the Argentine province of Tucumán, with the State Department’s inaugural International Women of Courage award for her tireless work to find her missing daughter and fight human trafficking.
