Press Release

December 3, 2007

On-Line Passport and Notarial Appointments

Starting December 3rd, U.S. citizens in Argentina who wish to apply for a U.S. passport, register the birth of a child, or seek notarial services will be required to make their appointments directly on-line with the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires via the Embassy’s website:  HTTP://ARGENTINA.USEMBASSY.GOV.

This new Internet-based appointment system will allow citizens to choose convenient appointment times and receive immediate confirmation.  It will eliminate the wait for an appointment by e-mail and the frustration of trying to get through on busy Embassy phone lines.

American citizens whose passports were stolen and who must travel immediately may come directly to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy with a police report and photos Monday thru Friday from 8.30 am to noon.

Routine passport issuance takes approximately two weeks, so please plan accordingly.  Passport and birth report appointments are scheduled mornings Monday through Friday.  Details on application requirements can be found on the website.

Persons seeking notarial services will also be asked to schedule their appointments on line.  Only certain types of documents -- primarily for use in the United States -- may be notarized by an Embassy officer, so customers are advised to carefully review details on these limitations on the website before scheduling an appointment.

If you have any questions about the new on-line appointment system, please contact us by telephone or e-mail at 5777-4387 or BuenosAires-ACS@state.gov
