AMBASSADOR WAYNE BIDS FAREWELL TO THE PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA
May 27, 2009

“The President and I have made a thorough review of the present state of the excellent relations between our two countries and peoples. Argentina plays an important role in several areas relevant to the new administration; including peace-keeping and the fight against narcotics trafficking and terrorism. We talked about Argentina’s participation in the G-20 Summit in London and the Summit of the Americas. We also talked about the possibility of collaboration in areas of common interests like poverty reduction, climate change and energy challenges.” said Ambassador Wayne.

“There are many areas of common interest and collaboration leading to a high level of cooperation. Based on the historic friendship between the United States and Argentina, I leave my office confident that relations will be increasingly stronger as a new era of commitment with the region opens, one that focuses on the promotion of social justice and inclusion. By having a constructive approach towards the future, we will be able to build even more productive and beneficial relations for everyone.” said Ambassador Wayne.

On May 27, during a courtesy call to bid farewell to the Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Ambassador Wayne took the opportunity to review the significant progress achieved in the strengthening of bilateral relations in the past few years. The Ambassador thanked the President for being open to dialogue during his term in Argentina.

"I leave Argentina amazed at the incredible beauty of its landscapes and warmth of its people. It is on the basis of the generation and strengthening of interpersonal relations that we can enhance understanding among us and hence strengthen our bilateral relations." said Ambassador Wayne.
