EMBASSY COUNSELOR OUTLINES PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES AT SAN ANDRES UNIVERSITY
May 12, 2009
On May 12, the Embassy's Counselor for Science, Technology and the Environment, James Perez, outlined President Obama's environmental policies for a postgraduate class at San Andres University. The counselor emphasized how the environment, climate change, and the development of renewable sources of energy were a centerpiece of President Obama's program for change. He noted how quickly new policies were being put into place and explained the impact that these policies were expected to have. The counselor also mentioned the invitation made by President Obama to all Latin American heads of state at the recent Summit of the Americas to join in an Energy and Climate Partnership for the Americas, where all countries in the hemisphere would work together to develop clean and renewable sources of energy.
“It has been a little more than 100 days since Obama took office, and there has already been significant movement on both the renewable energy and climate change issues. On climate change, Obama has made it clear that the United States is back in the game and intends to take a leading role in forging the solution,” said Counselor Perez.
