TRIP TO MENDOZA

On April 13, 2012, the Consular Section will be providing passport services in MENDOZA. If you are a US citizen and would like to renew your US passport, add pages in the passport , or register the birth of your child, set up an appointment by sending an e-mail (before April 9) to BuenosAires-ACS@state.gov ; the subject line should read “Mendoza Trip”. Include your name and phone number and we will call you back to confirm an appointment.

 

Passport renewal without an appointment

To renew your passport without an appointment you MUST answer YES to ALL three requirements:

• Can present your most recent passport,
• Were at least 16 years old when that passport was issued,
• That passport was issued within the last 15 years.
 
 You will need to submit the following:
• Application for a U.S. passport Application Form DS-82,   
• Your most recent passport.  Your new passport will be issued with the same name in your most recent passport UNLESS you include with the application an original or certified court order or marriage certificate showing a change in name.  These documents will be returned to you with your new passport,
• One (1) 5cm x 5cm passport photograph,
• Passport Fee:  Do not send cash, checks, money orders, or credit card information with your application.  Please see payment options below.

Payment Options:

We are currently only able to accept payment for passport renewals at our cashier office located within the Consular Section.  We cannot receive payment by mail.

If you are unable to come to the Consular Section, you MUST arrange for a third party to pay the required fee of 110 USD personally at our cashier office.  Payment may be made in US Dollars, Argentine Pesos, or by an international credit card.  Our cashier hours are from 8.30am to 12pm and 2:30pm to 3.30pm.  The third party must bring a written authorization from the applicant. 

Delivery of passports: The process takes from 10 to 15 days. After 15 calendar days the applicant or an authorized person will be able to pick it up at the Embassy, Monday thru Thursday from 3pm to 4pm or receive it via DHL.

 Apply in Person with an appointment

You must apply in person if you can answer YES to ANY of these requirements:

  • you have never had a US passport, 
  • your passport has been lost, stolen or damaged, 
  • you were under age 16 when your most recent passport was issued, 
  • your most recent passport was issued more than 15 years ago. 

With the exception of emergency passports (only in the event of a lost or stolen passport) all regular passport applications are by appointment only.

You will need to submit the following:

  • Previous US passport.  If passport is not available, a certified copy of a US Birth Certificate or original US Naturalization Certificate. 
  • One (1) 5cm x 5cm passport photograph
  • Completed passport application. (DS-11
  • Current government issued photo I.D. 
  • Social Security number (if issued)
  • Passport fee in US dollars or Peso equivalent.

If the passport for which a renewal is being sought contains a baby photo, you will need to present progression photos to verify the physical development and identity. 

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CHILDREN
All children must appear in person.

Parents must execute the passport application for a child under age 16. They must bring the child’s birth certificate, parents’ or guardians’ own passports or other legal IDs, and a copy of the court-ordered guardianship, if applicable.  If one of the child’s parents is unavailable to appear in the embassy please send an e-mail to:  BuenosAires-ACS@state.gov for additional instructions.

Lost or Stolen Passports

If your valid U.S. passport has been lost or stolen please come to the Embassy, Colombia Ave, 4300 on any working day between Monday and Friday from 8:30-12:00 pm.
You will need to bring the following:
• Photo identification, if available (driver's license, etc.).
• Proof of citizenship, if available  (copy of your passport, US birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate),
• Police report of the loss or theft
• One (1) 5cm x 5cm passport photograph
• Fee: U$ 135

Fees :

Payable in cash in US dollars, or the equivalent in Arg. pesos, and international credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express and Diners)
 
• US 110 for applicants that qualify to apply by mail (Form DS-82)
• US 105 for minor (15 years old or younger) passport renewal (Form DS-11)
• US 135 all other adults (16 years old or older)  (Form DS-11)
