US BIOTECHNOLOGY EXPERT TALKS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF FOOD
October 18, 2006

US biotechnology expert Dr. Wayne Parrott explored the future of food during a press roundtable organized by the US Embassy on Wednesday, October 18. Doctor Parrott, a renowned professor in genetics at the University of Georgia, was in Argentina to give lectures in Salta and Rosario.

He also addressed members of Congress about the benefits of transgenic food. Speaking to reporters, Doctor Parrott said that on the tenth anniversary of biotechnology applied to the food industry “we can now conclude, based on science rather than supposition” that the announced risks of transgenic food have failed to materialize. “These risks are just what they were at the beginning: nothing but theoretical risks,” he said. He also predicted that the use of transgenic technology in food will double in the next ten years and said that Argentina is among the leaders in transgenic food.
