AMBASSADOR WAYNE ATTENDS THE ARGENTINE SUPREME COURT'S INAUGURATION OF THE OFFICE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
September 15, 2008
Ambassador Wayne attended on September 15 the inauguration of the Supreme Court’s Office of Domestic Violence. He congratulated Supreme Court Justice Elena Highton on the Court’s initiative and called it “an important gesture to provide legal counsel, medical assistance, psychological support, and protection to domestic violence victims.” During the inauguration, Supreme Court President Ricardo Lorenzetti stated that he hopes the office can be a model for other countries.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem worldwide. The Supreme Court’s decision to create an office to address this issue is an important step towards helping victims break their silence and seek justice,” Ambassador said.
Domestic violence is a problem in every country and can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, religion, gender, socioeconomic background and education level. “We hope the new office will help raise awareness about this social ill and protect victims by improving access to justice, especially for women and children”, the Ambassador stated.
