AMBASSADOR WAYNE MEETS HEALTH MINISTER GRACIELA OCAÑA

Ambassador Wayne was received by Health Minister Graciela Ocaña on January 16. They discussed a wide range of topics of common interest in this first meeting between them.
The Ambassador and the Minister agreed in honoring the important history of cooperation on health issues between Argentina and the United States. Ambassador Wayne mentioned several examples of the results of bilateral cooperation, from programs against avian flu and technical cooperation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to Harvard University’s PABSELA biomedical program.
The Minister and the Ambassador also talked about the difficulties in the treatment of drug addiction and the importance of working together in the fight against this global problem. Ambassador Wayne suggested the possibility of creating public-private partnerships to assist in facing this challenge. They also discussed the possibility of organizing a videoconference with experts from both countries who could share ideas and experiences.
“These technical exchanges generate important opportunities for both countries. We hope to strengthen and expand these cooperation programs that bear significant benefits for our peoples,” said the Ambassador.
Convinced that cooperation in the health field constitutes a quality platform for strengthening bilateral cooperation, Ambassador Wayne and Minister Ocaña committed themselves to maintain c ontact between the Ministry and the Embassy to explore new areas for joint work.
