November 3, 2008
Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Thomas Shannon, accompanied by Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne, met with a delegation of Argentines who had just arrived in the United States November 3 to observe the U.S. presidential elections. Over 70 Argentines are participating in special election programs by Fundacion Universitaria del Rio de la Plata (FURP) and the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS). A/S Shannon discussed a wide variety of issues with the group, including the transition that will take place following the November 4th presidential election, the world economic crisis, the G-20 summit to be held in Washington on November 15, alternative energy, bilateral relation and the U.S. vision for the region.
“The presence of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico at the G-20 summit in Washington Nov. 15 will be enriching because of the experiences they will share with the other countries," commented A/S Tom Shannon.
