EMBASSY HOSTED U.S SPECIALIST PROGRAM IN ENGLISH TEACHING
August 11-17, 2006

U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires hosted Professor Kathryn Koop, Language, Literature & Business Communication Courses Coordinator at New School University in New York, who was the keynote speaker at the 20th ARTESOL (Argentina Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Convention, carried out at the Faculty of Humanities, National University of Rio Cuarto, Cordoba, on August 11 and 12.  Dr. Koop addressed four plenary sessions, attended by 150 EFL teachers from all over Argentina, Chile and Brazil.  Her dissertations encouraged attendees to teach English Language for more effective participation in a Global Society.  Dr. Koop underlined the fact that today not all English Language learners pursue the goal of graduating as EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Teachers, instead many of them see the English Language learning as the international language which enables them to communicate with their pairs, to improve in their professions and also to get better jobs.  In this way, English Language Teaching can also be considering as a tool for job creation.
The Public Affairs Section presented to all English Language Teacher participants a copy of the book “ American Ways ” by Jodi Crandall (ARTESOL keynote speaker 2005) as a present to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

Professor Kathy Koop also trained five English Language teachers with The Books in a Box Program, who will train other teachers in their institutions producing a multiplier effect. This training took place at the Cordoba BNC.   To conclude her program, Professor Koop participated as a consultant in the VI Argentine BNC Academic Directors Meeting, also hosted by this BNC, and gave a free public lecture, to an audience of 90 ELT and advanced students of the ELT career, at the Faculty of Languages of the National University of Cordoba on “Strategies for Teaching Academic Writing and Literature.”
