How to apply for a visa

Applicants under 14 years old and over 79 by mail without a personal interview

Certain applicants may be qualified to apply under the personal appearance waiver program without a visa interview. Qualified applicants can just drop-off the appropriate documentation.

Qualifications for applying for a visa using a Personal Appearance Waiver:

  • The applicant is an Argentine CITIZEN and under the age of 14, and at least one of the parents:
    • Is an Argentine citizen,
    • Possesses a valid visa issued in Buenos Aires of the same visa category they are requesting for the child(ren),
    • Has not had a previous visa lost, stolen or revoked within the last 10 years, and
    • Has never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or has had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol when attempting to enter the United States.

Please note: The case will not be accepted if either of the parents holds a U.S. Passport.

Important: If you do not qualify for the above mentioned, you will be required to schedule an appointment

OR

  • The applicant is 80 years of age and older and:
    • Is an Argentine citizen applying with an Argentine passport,
    • Was not previously refused a visa of any category,
    • Has not had a previous visa or passport lost, stolen, or revoked within the last 10 years, and
    • Has never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or has had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol when attempting to enter the United States.

Application procedures for applicants who are not required to have a personal interview:

Applicants who meet the requirements listed above can drop off their documents following these steps:

  1. Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, and print out the DS-160 confirmation (barcode) number for each applicant. The application can be completed at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv
  2. Create a new account by clicking “Log In” at the top right corner of this Web site.
    1. Note: Once you have have logged in you can return to the “Applicant Summary” page at any time by clicking on “My Account” at the top right corner of the Web site.
  3. Follow the Web site’s flow:
    1. In the Trip Purpose menu, select "Nonimmigrant Visas," then select "Visitor (B)" and "Visitor Visa (B1/B2) – Personal Appearance Waiver."
    2. Select a DHL location.
    3. Pay the MRV fee.
    4. Continue to follow the flow of the Web site till you reach the Confirmation page
  4. Please print the CONFIRMATION page.
  5. Click HERE, select and print the PDF instruction sheet “Personal Appearance Program – Applicants under 14 years old” or “Personal Appearance Program – Applicants over 80 years old” with a checklist. Please collect all the required documents.
  6. Once you have all the documents required on the checklist, carefully read the statement at the end of the sheet, sign & date it and sent it together with the other documents.

Where do I submit the documentation?

Submit your documents at the Applicant Service Center (ACS) Avenida Santa Fe 4569, Palermo Monday through Thursday from 7:30 pm to 12:30 pm, except Argentine holidays and American holidays .

APPLICANTS WHO ARE IN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY, please take all the documents with the instructions sheet to DHL: This no-cost service is only available for DHL branches in Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario and Mar del Plata.

  • Please verify that you are submitting all the required documentation. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and documents will be returned to the applicant.
  • For minors’ cases, it is required that one of the parents submits the documents. No third parties are allowed.
  • For applicants over 80, the applicant himself or an immediate family member showing proof of the relationship can submit the documents.  

NOTE: The Consular Officer not only reserves the right to request an in-person interview for any applicant for any reason, but also to request further documentation.

An applicant should not make final travel plans until the visa has been approved and delivered.

Where do I pick up the passport? – NOT at the Consulate

After the visa is processed, the consulate will send the passport/s via DHL to the branch selected by the applicant at the beginning of the registration process. The delivery is FREE OF CHARGE to any branch in Buenos Aires and the interior of the country (selected when registering). Within 10 working days after submitting the documentation, access your account to find the airway bill number to pick up your passport/s. You will find the message "ready for pick up" in the Applicant Summary.
