Non-Immigrant Visas
General Information and How to Apply
Welcome to the Non-immigrant Visa Section of the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires. This Section provides visa services to Argentines and citizens of other countries that reside in Argentina and are willing to visit the United States. Visitors may travel to the United States temporarily for Business or pleasure, but we process nonimmigrant visas for many different purposes such as students, temporary workers, journalists, religious workers, etc. If your purpose of travel is other than business or pleasure, you will need to apply for a visa in the appropriate category. The different types of non-immigrant visas are listed on the left of this page. Click on the left navigation bar for more information on visa types.
PLEASE PLAN AHEAD!
Always be sure to plan ahead for your trip to the U.S. Check the link for current visa appointment wait-times. Visa Wait Times
Due to new processing requirements, the U.S. Embassy can not guarantee expedited or same-day processing of visa applications. From the date of interview, the average time for a visa to be cleared, printed, and delivered through DHL or our visa partners (Amcham and our 14 Bi-National Centers) is now approximately 3-4 days. Delivery times may be somewhat longer for applicants who reside in remote provincial areas. Visa applicants are therefore advised to take these normal processing delays into account when they arrange their visa appointment dates.
Important Notice
Effective January 1, 2008, the application fee for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa will increase from $100 to $131. This increase is due to the rising costs of enhancements to the non-immigrant visa application process.
Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee before January 1 will be processed only if they are scheduled and appear for a visa interview before January 31. Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee and appear for visa interviews after January 31, 2008 must pay the difference -- $31 -- before they can be interviewed.
The Department of State is required by law to recover the cost of processing non-immigrant visas. The application fee was last increased in 2002. It is charged uniformly worldwide. For complete information on non-immigrant visas to the united states, travelers may consult the State Department's website at www.travel.state.gov.
