AMBASSADOR WAYNE MEETS MINISTER OF FOREIGN RELATIONS JORGE TAIANA
February 12, 2009

Ambassador Wayne and Minister Taiana met on February 12, joined by Vice Minister Vittorio Taccetti and Deputy Chief of Mission Tom Kelly.   During the meeting, Ambassador Wayne and Minister Taiana underscored the value of cooperative ties betweens the United States and Argentina.  They agreed that our two countries share many mutual interests and goals for the hemisphere and that we need to work closely at all levels of government to advance them.

Ambassador Wayne and Minister Taiana also discussed consultations in Washington next week by Secretary Victorio Taccetti, who will meet with senior State Department officials.

Minister Taiana and Ambassador Wayne discussed the upcoming G-20 Summit in Great Britain, and the Summit of the Americas to be held in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Minister Taiana, Vice Minister Tacceti and I discussed the importance of deepening and expanding our bilateral exchanges in coming months as the new administration of President Obama defines its policies in the hemisphere and as we prepare for the G’20 Summit and the Summit of the Americas.  The United States views Argentina as an important partner in developing multilateral responses to such challenges as the global financial crisis, terrorism, weapons proliferation, drug-trafficking and trafficking in persons.  We see many opportunities ahead to expand our collaboration,” said Ambassador Wayne.
