AMBASSADOR WAYNE MEETS MINISTER OF THE INTERIOR FLORENCIO RANDAZZO
January 22, 2009

On January 22, Ambassador Wayne visited Minister of the Interior Florencio Randazzo.  During the meeting, both officials discussed the recent inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama, the challenges that he will face, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Minister Randazzo and Ambassador Wayne talked about the joint work of both countries to achieve common goals, such as in immigration related issues. Ambassador Wayne expressed to Minister Randazzo his appreciation for the cooperation between Argentina and the United States on this topic. They talked also about the importance of professional and student exchanges and tourism between both countries, and steps that can be taken to promote them.

During the meeting they also talked about the important role of Minister Randazzo as coordinator of federal-provincial relations. The Minister informed the Ambassador about the measures the Argentine government is taking to stimulate the economy and combat the severe drought that affects several regions in the country.

Under President Obama’s administration a new chapter in U.S. relations with Latin America will open.  We will continue to work persistently with the Argentine government to strengthen and deepen our bonds, and to continue opening new roads of cooperation with Argentina and the region," said the Ambassador.
