AMBASSADOR'S REMARKS AT AMCHAM IPR INNOVATION AWARDS
INPI
November 28, 2007
Thank you, President Aramburu, and INPI, for hosting this event and welcoming me. I am very pleased to be here.
I appreciate being able to cooperate with the Argentine government on something of benefit to Argentina, and am also gratified to see a public/private partnership dedicated to strengthening intellectual property protection here in Argentina.
I also want to thank everyone involved with this contest. This is an excellent example of how creative efforts become better through collaboration, and how the creativity of one can benefit another. Everyone involved in this contest deserves congratulations and thanks.
First, I thank the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, for creating and organizing it.
Second, thanks to INPI again, and the Universities of Austral, Belgrano, Blas Pascal, and Catolica in Cordoba, for offering prizes to the winners of the contest.
Finally, and most importantly, thank you to all of those who entered the contest.
You contest participants are the most important part of this event, not only because of your hard work in preparing your entries, but because it is you and your generation who will define how well intellectual property will be protected in Argentina.
And your presence here is important as well because you and your generation will be the primary beneficiaries of that protection. Increased protection will provide opportunities for Argentine creativity to flourish, and contribute to the country's competitiveness - and create jobs.
Such protection encourages that creativity, which permits us all to enjoy breakthroughs in science, medicine, and the arts.
In my experience in Argentina, there is certainly no lack of creativity here, as I have seen in business, the sciences, and culture.
Protecting that creativity generates opportunities for employment, especially in nations like Argentina, where service sectors that depend on attracting young, creative talent -- such as music, software, and the vibrant Argentine film and television industry -- have demonstrated their significant growth potential.
Once again, my thanks to all the participants and sponsors of this contest, and my congratulations to the winners.
I hope that you continue to utilize your creativity to its fullest and wish you the best in your endeavors.
