English Teaching Convention supported by the US Embassy
September 24-26, 2009
The FAAPI (Federation of Argentine Associations of English Language Teachers) took place in Bahia Blanca, province of Buenos Aires on September 24-26, 2009. An audience of 800 EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers from all over Argentina got together to carry out their 34th annual convention.
Dr. Mary Lou McCloskey, the US keynote speaker participated through a Fulbright grant. She addressed two plenary sessions on “Online Tools for Language Teaching and Learning” and on “A Scaffolding Toolbox for Teachers of English;” which were praised by the audiences. Concurrent sessions, workshops and poster presentations were carried out by prestigious local presenters, and among them, Teacher Ambassadors and Fulbright alumni presented on relevant topics.
The Public Affairs Section enabled these many participations by proving financial support. Also and for the first time, the US Embassy financed the publication of the convention proceedings book. This contribution was crucial for the publication of all the papers and presentations of the convention proceedings book. The organizers, presenters and the Argentine English teaching community welcomed and thanked the US Embassy for the financial and academic support.
