DONATION OF PCS TO COLEGIO LAS LOMAS ORAL IN MARTINEZ
December 9, 2008

Ines Parera, principal of Las Lomas Oral School for the Deaf; Ines Funes, its founder, and kids and teachers of the institution closed end-of-year school activities with the visit of Ambassador Wayne and Bob Hanan of HelpArgentina.

The Las Lomas Oral School is an organization member of Help Argentina since last year and since then, they have received donations from abroad. The Las Lomas Oral School has been teaching to listen and to speak to kids with severe and deep hearing losses.  Today, 75 kids attend school, from their early ages, with the purpose of facilitating integration to mainstream schools in the shortest possible time.

This is the only school in Latin America which implements the audio-oral methodology following the standards of the Moog Center for Deaf Education (Saint Louis, Missouri).  This method uses the oral language as an effective tool to integrate kids with severe hearing loss into society.  They work hard and in an individualized way so that kids take full advantage of their hearing capacity, allowing them to develop their oral expression easily and facilitate their learning process.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to be able to collaborate with the donation of these three PCs to a school that works so hard to help these children with hearing problems interact productively in Argentine society. I’m especially happy to work with the only school outside the US that applies the Moog Center methodology. I enjoyed very much talking with the students and answering their questions about the United States,” said Ambassador Wayne.
