AMBASSADOR WAYNE RECEIVES WORK OF ART FROM MAYOR OF LINCOLN
September 10, 2008

Jorge Abel Fernandez, Mayor of Lincoln, in the Province of Buenos Aires, presented to the Embassy a statue of Abraham Lincoln.  Mayor Fernandez hailed Lincoln as one of the outstanding figures in world history.  Ambassador Wayne accepted the statue with gratitude, noting that it symbolized the close relations between the peoples of Argentina and the United States, as well as the two nations' shared commitment to peace and democracy.  The mayor and the Ambassador also discussed ways to increase contacts between Lincoln, Argentina and the two cities of Lincoln in the United States, one in Illinois and the other in Nebraska.
