November 1, 2012
Ambassador Vilma Martinez hosted representatives of the Fundación Argentina de Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales y Trans (FALGBT) and the local American business community yesterday for a breakfast reception honoring and promoting positive LGBT corporate policies. During her remarks, Ambassador Martinez stressed the importance of creating workplaces that reflect the shared American and Argentine values of liberty and equal dignity. Ambassador Martinez highlighted the changes made in 2010 to the United States Government’s “corporate policies” toward LGBT persons, as well as our continued commitment to partnerships with civil society, foundations and corporations who are advancing the human rights of LGBT persons. She praised Argentina’s path toward ensuring rights for LGBT persons and stressed the importance of corporate leadership in establishing policies against discrimination.
The event also included remarks from FALGBT, a representative of UNAIDS in Argentina, and a Q & A session with representatives of Hewlett Packard and Delta Airlines regarding their commitment to the human rights of LGBT persons.
More than 60 guests attended this event, which was organized and sponsored by FALGBT. The event coincided with the beginning of Gay Pride Month in Argentina.
