DCM THOMAS KELLY SPEAKS AT THE NATIONAL MODEL UN PROGRAM
November 2, 2007
DCM Kelly was the keynote speaker at the opening of the National UN Model program, attended by more than 1,200 high school students from across Argentina, at the University of Buenos Aires’ School of Law on November 2. In his remarks, DCM Kelly said: “I believe strongly in the value of the Model UN program. Through your participation, you will learn more about our world and the important role the UN plays in international diplomacy”...” As a founding member and the host country, the United States is committed to supporting the UN as an instrument for promoting peace, security, freedom, and human rights”. The opening ceremony was attended by Law School Dean Atilio Alterini, Conciencia President Lia Rueda, and SC Johnson & Son General Manager José Latugaye.
Before the opening session, DCM Kelly met with Law School Dean Atilio Alterini, and then met with almost 50 high school students that represented the United States in local Model UN programs during 2007. The Model UN program is organized by the NGO Conciencia and sponsored by SC Johnson & Son Argentina. The US Embassy, through its Information Resource Center, supports students that represent the United States by assisting them in the research of US Government policies.
