YOUNG ARGENTINE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN 2006 WORLD SCHOLAR-ATHLETE GAMES
June 23, 2006
Ambassador Lino Gutierrez met with Gerardo Romero (18) of Mendoza City, and Marcos David Cancio Montbrun (18) of Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, who will both participate in the 2006 World Scholar-Athlete Games in Kingston, Rhode Island from June 24th - July 2nd. Both young men were chosen for their good grades, athletic abilities, and musical talents.
The games began in 1993 to promote understanding, acceptance, and friendship among young people; establish open non-political, long-standing relationships among tomorrow's world leaders; and to use sports and the arts as a means of communication and working strategies as the participants pursue positions of leadership in government, education, and other professional fields. The 2006 Games will bring together approximately 2,000 young scholars in secondary school and who are talented in athletics or the fine arts. These young leaders will come to the University of Rhode Island from over 160 countries around the world to partake in a tribute to personal achievement and cultural diversity. Through experiences in the athletic arena, in the classroom or studio, in group discussions, in informal gatherings at exciting special events and through social exchange during the Games' nighttime activities, the 2006 Games will enable participants to develop understanding, acceptance and friendship with their peers from around the world.
