AMBASSADOR WAYNE MEETS WITH OFFICIALS OF THE ARGENTINE JUDICIAL SYSTEM
October 28, 2008

Ambassador Wayne met October 28 with 15 officials of the Argentine judicial system who had traveled to the U.S. on a trip sponsored by the International Judicial Academy and the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, along with members of the Chamber who supported the trip.  They discussed aspects of the U.S. legal system related to intellectual property, as well as ways in which the trip helped establish ties and improve relations between our two governments.

Ambassador Wayne said, "This trip was a critical step forward in the protection of intellectual property, which is important for Argentina.  Argentines are generating innovations in record numbers and deserve to be the "exclusive owner" of their ideas, as the Argentine Constitution says.  This type of exchange, along with the many exchanges we engage in, strengthen our bilateral relationship and our cooperative efforts in many areas of common interest."

Travelers met with numerous U.S. officials and private sector representatives, including federal judges, a federal prosecutor, and officials from the United States Patent Office.  They also visited the United States Supreme Court and the Argentine Embassy in the U.S., where they met with Argentine Ambassador to the United States Hector Timerman.
