Ambassador Vilma Martinez bid farewell on March 30 to six Argentine students traveling to the United States March 30-April 21 as the first delegation of Youth Ambassadors 2010.
“These young people have been selected to travel to the United States for their efforts and dedication as well as the community work they carry out in their cities. I hope they can share the rich Argentine culture with their host families in Montana and enjoy their visit to Washington, D.C..” – said Ambassador Martinez.
Youth Ambassadors will visit Washington, D.C., where they will join the delegations from Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela to visit important historic places and meet representatives from embassies and other institutions. The Argentine delegation will travel to the state of Montana for two weeks and live with host families, attend school and participate in cultural and sporting events.
This is the fourth edition of the Youth Ambassadors Program, an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in Argentina in collaboration with Partners of the Americas. The students were selected among 350 candidates between 16 and 18 years of age coming from public schools throughout the country. Students stand out for their high academic achievements and a strong social engagement in their respective communities. A second delegation of Youth Ambassadors will travel under the same schedule early in September.
