AMBASSADOR WAYNE HOSTS YOUTH AMBASSADORS
MArch 25, 2009
Ambassador Wayne received on March 25 in his residence at the neighborhood of Palermo ten Argentine students who will be traveling to the United States March 28-April 11 under the Youth Ambassadors Program 2009.
“I congratulate these young people selected to participate in this program for their academic efforts and dedication as well as strong commitment to their communities. I am sure they will be excellent ambassadors in my country and they will share their culture with other American youngsters, strengthening ties between both nations.” – said Ambassador Wayne.
Participants will visit Washington, DC, meet government officials, visit historic monuments and attend cultural events. They will live during ten days with an American host family in the state of Montana and attend school. Participants will also be Argentine Ambassadors and give presentations on their country.
This is the third edition of the Youth Ambassadors Program, an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in Argentina in collaboration with the Fulbright Commission, Partners of the Americas and public and private organizations in both countries. The students were selected among 350 candidates between 16 and 18 years of age, come from public schools, have good English proficiency and no previous travel abroad. They also stand out for showing a strong social engagement in their respective communities. The program helps these children establish ties of lasting friendship, improve their English and come up with new ideas on community and social work. To date, 27 students from 17 Argentine provinces have participated in the Youth Ambassadors Program.
