THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY - IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT DONATES COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO THE BORDER GUARD
April 7, 2009
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Attaché Stephen Kleppe donated five full pieces of computer equipment to the National Border Guard Information Center in Mendoza on April 7. This unit has been extremely helpful in the recent past to handle two ICE investigations resulting in the arrest of a U.S. citizen accused of child sexual abuse and seizure of smuggled electronics items valued at several million dollars.
“I hope this equipment is useful to border guard officers with whom we hold historically strong ties of cooperation that have proved to be successful in the many times unequal fight against transnational organized crime,” said U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement Attaché Stephen Kleppe.
Mendoza’s Border Guard Chief, Major General Gustavo Oberti presided the event. Also present were Command Major Hugo Confalonieri; the Head of the unit receiving the donation, Chief Commander Enrique Herrera; Deputy Chief of the Unit, Commander Orlando Saavedra and the staff. Major General Oberti and ICE Attaché Stephen Kleppe gave some remarks. Attaché Stephen Kleppe highlighted the close and strong bilateral cooperation between Argentina and the United States, and congratulated enforcement forces for the successful work in the fight against organized crime.
