On June 4th, four Youth Ambassadors gathered at the Health Primary Assistance Center “Nuestra Señora del Pilar” located in San Pablo, (a small town, 16 kms. from San Miguel de Tucumàn) to develop the “Healthy Hearts Project”, which was aimed to raise awareness about the most common heart diseases, encourage people to practise sports and do regular physical activities and exercise and improve the physical conditions of locals.
The activity was designed and developed by Youth Ambassadors Nadine Poder from the capital of San Luis, Brenda Marella from Ushuaia and Marcos Francia from the city of Buenos Aires who joined Pablo Cataldo, a resident of San Pablo, Prov. of Tucumán.
The group of students donated stools, fans, a children´s blood pressure cuff, medicines, popsicle sticks for doctors, scales, gym mats, balls, neck warmers for children, among other items useful for the people who regularly come to this center. They also arranged two workshops related to health care and recreational activities for the neighbours of San Pablo.
This community service project was funded by Partners of the Americas and supported by the Embassy of the United States. A local NGO, Fundación León, also helped by including San Pablo’s center in one of their health programs consisting on providing the local people with medicines.
After the Youth Ambassadors´ visit to the USA, they were willing to contribute to civil society and volunteer organizations in our country, that is why they developed this community project so as to generate interest, mobilize volunteers and foster constructive relationships among youth and adults from Argentina in order to ensure sustainability and long-term success.
